I have some plans later in Kelly’s Journey that involve Kelly somewhat forcing Misty into doing something with her (I’m not going to tell you what it is though) and this drawing is suppose to be part of that scene. It’s when she’s running over to Misty, yelling “MISTY! MISTY! MISTY! MISTY” which prompts Misty to turn and say “What?” and Kelly responds that she has an idea that only Misty can help with.

Ah, Kelly and Misty.

I like to think they kind of hate each other, but like each other at the same time. That’s just me though.

I have some issues with this sketch. With both Kelly and Misty, I have an issue with the eyes. They’re too big for my liking. I am/was trying to figure out what kind of style I want to draw all the Kelly’s Journey images in and got some inspiration from the current Best Wishes series where a lot of the characters have larger eyes than before. However, I don’t like this style and it makes it look like they’re trying to be super cute and it just…looks disturbing.

I have an issue with Sparkle’s tail and Bicker’s head, but I don’t believe I could have drawn them any better. I don’t think I could draw them even better now.

And then there’s Misty. I have a ton of issues with how I drew Misty. I have trouble drawing Misty in general though, so it’s not really surprising. Her body is terribly wacky looking, with possibly the worse offender being her arms/shoulders and her stomach, which look terrible together – her arms look all wide and her stomach looks like you could break her in half. Her hands are also terribly done. Her face also looks terribly odd, partially thanks to her hair and my issues with drawing ears. I can’t draw ears.

I think Togepi came out successful though. In fact, I think Togepi is the best looking thing in this entire image.

The coloured version isn’t too much different.

I didn’t fix anything, primarily because, to me, it was too late to save this image that I didn’t even like in the first place. After I finished sketching it, I knew I didn’t like it. I wasn’t going to colour it, but I had several people who really liked this image (I’m going to guess because Misty was in it and my fan character was in it as well), so I decided, oh, what the heck. Let me just colour it. I probably could have fixed the image a bit, but I didn’t want to put in the effort.

It became some type of background practice though. I’m really liking those bushes. The trees are decent too – they don’t look like the Pokémon trees, but the texturizing and lighting looks good to me if not compared to Pokémon. The perspective is terrible though, but that’s…kind of okay. I don’t really care too much.

Overall…I still don’t like this picture. I won’t be surprised if it’s one of my more popular images though because the world really, really likes to do that.
