I hadn’t drawn Kelly for a while and something about that was bothering me. It was like I suddenly lost interest in my own character who had been close to me and, quite frankly, I didn’t like it. I also didn’t like that I often drew images of her without her Pokémon. This resulted in two images – one was of Kelly, Sparkle, and Bicker, the other one was this one.
I didn’t really know what I was drawing, other than just Kelly and Bicker, who, in my head, are secret best friends. I didn’t know what they were sitting on or where they were. I also think this is one of the first images I did with my red pencil, which you can kind of tell because the sketch lines are pretty dang smooth.
I didn’t really like how Bicker looked and I couldn’t fix him much in the coloured version. The positioning was just too awkward.
I’m actually rather pleased with how the coloured version came out, despite the awkward perspective and the terrible ground. For some strange reason, putting her at a port made sense to me. I still think it looks good. I’m really happy with how the water came out, though the ground makes me want to cry, it’s so bad.
Also, WHERE ARE THEY EVEN. I CAN’T EVEN TELL. AND WHY IS KELLY SITTING ON THAT RANDOM THING THAT…I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS.
There’s so much I don’t get about this image.
One of my favourite aspects of this image though is that Kelly is so totally in character. I think she’s thinking about something, so there’s no way she’d smile. She actually doesn’t smile that much unless she’s being arrogant and spoiled, har har har har.
I was hoping to give Bicker a look that more matched Kelly’s, but that didn’t really work.
Overall though, I like this image~! Not as much as another one you’ll be seeing next week, but still.
